About Kakekukeko

Aloha! I'm Janelle, the maker behind Kakekukeko.

Kakekukeko was built from a simple desire: to create meaningful work with my hands while supporting my family. As a mom of four, my days are filled with teaching, learning, creating, and finding joy in the little things. What started at my sewing machine has grown into a business rooted in family, community, and a love for handmade craftsmanship.

The name Kakekukeko is inspired by my children and serves as a daily reminder of why I started this journey. This business has never been mine alone—it has been built with the support of my family every step of the way. Along the way, my keiki have learned valuable life skills by seeing firsthand what it looks like to work hard, solve problems, serve others, and pursue something you care deeply about.

Like many small business owners, I've had to work through seasons of self-doubt and uncertainty. Through those experiences, I've learned that growth often happens when we're willing to take the next step, even when we don't have everything figured out. One of the unexpected blessings of this journey has been encouraging friends and fellow makers to believe in themselves and pursue their own goals as well.

Every item is thoughtfully designed, cut, and sewn here in Hawaiʻi. I believe there is something special about knowing who made the things you bring into your home. In a world of mass production, I value creating pieces with care, intention, and quality.

I've had the honor of participating in events with Partners in Development Foundation and American Savings Bank, along with many other community events throughout Hawaiʻi. Being part of these spaces and meeting customers, fellow entrepreneurs, and makers from all walks of life has been one of the most rewarding parts of this experience. Hearing people's stories, learning about their journeys, and building genuine connections is what makes this work so fun and enriching.

At the heart of Kakekukeko is a belief that handmade goods are about more than the finished product. They represent family, perseverance, community, and the people behind every stitch.

"ʻAʻohe hana nui ke alu ʻia."

No task is too big when done together.

Mahalo for supporting handmade, supporting local, and being part of the Kakekukeko story. 🌺
